November Newsletter
Scoil Mhuire Newsletter November 2011.
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As we are well and truly into winter please ensure that children wear coats to school. While it might be fine leaving home in the morning it is much colder on the yard at this time of year. Please put initials or name on all coats – we have a stock of unclaimed coats from last year!
Updated website
Our newly revamped website www.scoilmhuirecampile.com is now up and running. We hope to be able to keep you informed of events and happenings through the site. A number of new photos to reflect recent happenings are being uploaded at the moment by Mr Cadogan.
Christmas Concert
As you are no doubt aware from your children this year’s concert items are under rehearsal at the moment. The mammoth task of getting it all together will hopefully be ready for Dec 6th and 7th . We all look forward to enjoying the variety of acts . The logistics of getting out concert tickets is being managed by Ann in the office. The first round of two tickets per family should be completed by early next week- some families have yet to return their slips. Tickets will be given out on receipt of money. A further ticket will be available to all families as soon as the first round is completed. No tickets will be available at the door in Campile Hall.
Rackard League success
Congratulations to the Boys Rackard League Football team which finished the season with an emphatic win in the County Final last Friday in Cushinstown against Bree. The boys have displayed great skill and show great potential for the future. Great credit is due to Mr Cadogan for all his effort and lunchtime training.
A special medal presentation will be held in Scoil Mhuire on Friday 25th November at 8pm.
Art Competition Winners
Highlighting the variety of talent of our students, 11 of our pupils won prizes in the recent Tesco Hallow’een Art competition and collect their prizes on Sun 20th in the New Ross store at 4pm. Orla Nolan won the Overall prize for a wonderful supermarket themed entry.
6th class have also worked on a Quinn Direct Christmas Card competition for the Late, Late Christmas Show in an effort to win money for the school! The best two will be sent on to the competition.
BOM elections
All parents should have received ballot papers for parent representative elections to the new Board of Management. Many thanks to those who attended the meeting and those who allowed their names go forward to represent the parent body. Please send back in your ballot papers by Mon next – there is a box in the office for them. Counting of the votes will be on Mon at 2pm.
Literacy Night
Many thanks to all Junior Infant parents who attended our Literacy Night on the 9th November. It gave us an opportunity to introduce the new Literacy and Numeracy strategy document from the Minister for Education which highlights the role of parents in developing these crucial areas of learning. Hopefully there will be other opportunities to engage with parents on literacy and numeracy during the year. The strategy document is available on www.education.ie and has been followed up with a circular to schools this week on changes for schools including time spent on literacy and numeracy and reporting of assessment results.
Clothes recycling
Many thanks to those who de-cluttered wardrobes for our recycling appeal this week. Approximately 60 bags were collected by Umbro Clothing. The Green school committee uses money from the collection to plant bulbs, shrubs , trees etc and generally enhance the look of the school.
Game Playing Day
Once again we had a very successful and fun Games afternoon on the 28th October. 6th class again did a wonderful job of organising the event which raised €520 for Wexford Hospice Home Care. Thank you for your support.
