Scoil Mhuire Newsletter November 2014.

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

An early November  highlight for our school has been the fantastic football finals played by our Girls and Boys Rackard League in Enniscorthy last week. Congratulations to the girls on winning their match with Castlebridge and commiserations to the boys who lost by a single point to Piercetown/Murrintown. Appreciation is due to teachers and mentors  involved in the training of both teams.

School calendars

The Parent Association has produced a beautiful school calendar for 2015, the ideal Christmas gift for godparents and grandparents! Each month has a dedicated class and all pupil names are referenced on the inside back cover . School holiday dates  already known have been inserted. The calendar costs €10 and is available from Ann in the office or from Parent Association committee members.

Christmas Carol Concert

We will hold our Carol service in St.James Church, Horeswood on Wednesday 10th December at 7.30pm. This year Mr. O’Connor’s 5th /6th class will narrate the Christmas story. As with last year all the pupils of Scoil Mhuire will sign along with the songs and carols. Mr O’Connor has also organised a brass ensemble to accompany the carols – a real treat to look forward to!

Parent Association AGM

Ms. Ann-Marie Thornton gave a very interesting talk on Nutrition at last week’s Parent Association AGM. The information given was very useful in the light of our review of our Healthy Lunch policy. Ann-Marie referenced an excellent website www.safefood.eu  where you will find information on the Food Pyramid and Eat Well Plate. Interesting fact: A pot of yogurt contains 6 spoons on sugar, a fruit pot contains 5!

Folens Annuals

Folens annuals, Súgradh, Spraoi,Sonas and are now available for purchase in the office for €4. The annuals are always very popular with our pupils but are entirely optional.

Recycling Clothes Collection

As part of our on-going Green School activities Mrs O’Brien has organised a Recycling Clothes Collection for Tuesday 25th November. We are using a different company this year and bags are not provided. Please put all clean clothing in a bag and leave at the bus  ring wall next to the gate before 9.30am. Funds raised go to the school’s Green School fund.

6th Class Parent /Teacher meetings.

6th Class parent /teacher meetings will take place before Christmas. It was found beneficial last year to have the 6th class meetings early because of secondary school choices. Ms. O’Connor and Mr. O’Connor plan to have these meetings on the 8th and 9th of December. Information and times will be sent home via pupils.

All other class groups will be facilitated on the 3rd and 10th of February 2015.

Mini-trips

All of 4th class attended a Science Workshop in New Ross Library as part of Science Week. It was presented by the Anyone4Science group and was enjoyed by pupils and teachers alike.

Mr Crowley’s 4th /5th are visiting the Dunbrody Famine Ship and Ros Tapestry this Friday as part of their SESE .

Hurling 365

Hurling 365 has recommenced with 3 groups of boys Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and camogie for girls on Thursday . Children wait in the Hall at 3pm to be collected and brought up to the indoor .

GAA  car collection

The GAA club have asked us to inform parents using the GAA grounds for school pick-ups not to unhook the chain to drive closer to the school.
