Monday 19th October 2015 will be a day to remember for all our pupils and school community who witnessed the handover ceremony of our National Flag and 1916Proclamation by the Defence Forces.

IMG_9661Lt. Shane Flood and Sgt Kieran Kennedy were greeted at the school gates by a Guard of Honour from 6th class and some 5th class pikemen on the steps with parent Therese Mythen piping the visitors through to the school Hall. The Hall was decorated with photographs of the 1916 Proclamation signatories and tri-colour bunting.

Principal,Ms Rossiter, welcome the visitors to Scoil Mhuire . Lt. Flood then spoke to the pupils about the origin, significance and care of our National Flag. he was impressed by the knowledge our pupils already had of both the flag and proclamation. Lt. Flood asked the children to get involved in writing their own Proclamation for 2016. John Ryan from 6th class read Paragraph 4 of the 1916 Proclamation to the assembly with great dramatic flair.
