Scoil Mhuire Newsletter December 2011

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Christmas is almost here! After the hectic time leading up to the School Concert we now have
time to enjoy the build-up to the Christmas season. I think you will all agree
that our concert was a great success and gave an opportunity to all our
students to display their talents. Thanks to all families for their support,
the Parent Association for organising the raffle and the Hall committee for
their help in preparing the Hall. Some photos are on our website under
Children’s work / Concert. DVD’s are available from Mr Cadogan for €10.

New Board of Management

The first meeting of the new BOM was held this week. Members are: Fr O’ Leary, Chairman,
Mr. Dominic Foley (Patron’s nominee) , Ms Fiona Kenny and Mr Sean Lyng (Parent
representatives) Ms Ann Dempsey and Mr Sean O’ Sullivan (Community representatives), Ms Evelyn O’
Connor (Teacher representative) Ms.Margaret Rossiter (Principal).

The Board has been unsuccessful in its funding application to the DES for changes to the
school car park. The Board would ask all parents collecting their children by
car to be mindful of keeping the main entrance accessible to buses. Buses need
to be able to reverse into the car park .If cars are parked at the opposite
ditch to the entrance buses may not be able to reverse. School staff continue
to supervise all pupils at both gates .Please ring ahead if you are going to be
late especially on wet days.

Fr. O’ Leary has confirmed that Bishop Brennan will bless the new room on February 29^th
. More details of the visit nearer the date.

Retirement

Sadly, wewill be losing a valued member of staffat the end of February. Mrs Kavanagh will be retiring on 29^th
February under the Public Service Retirement Scheme. It goes without saying
that her presence will be sorely missed by all at Scoil Mhuire. She is
currently working towards achieving our Water theme Green Flag and would
encourage families to help their children come up with a slogan on water conservation.

Enrolments for 2012/13

Enrolments for 2012/13 Junior Infants will commence after the Christmas holidays and
continue until the end of February. Notices will be placed around the parish
and enrolment packs will be available from Ann in the office. If you are aware
of families who have children ready to start school for the first time in the
family please ask them to call to the school.

Budget Implications

We are probably one of the few schools that will benefit from recent budget changes in
education. The pupil teacher ratio remains at 28:1 and means that we will have
an extra class teacher in September 2012 based on our current numbers.

Child Protection Policy

In response to the revised Children First document
the Board of Management has updated its Child Protection Policy. Schools must
now report allegations of abuse which may be in the categories of neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse and
sexual abuse. The policy will be included with the new enrolment pack and
copies are available on request from the school.The DES Child Protection circular (65/11) can be

Parent/Teacher meetings

Our parent/teacher meetings will be held over two afternoons , Tuesday 31^st
January and Tuesday February 7^th 2012 from 3.30 – 6.00. Individual
times (10 mins per child) and a full timetable will be coordinated by Mr
Cadogan in early January.

ChristmasClosure

Thursday 22^ndDecember is the last day of term. School will close at 12.30pm. Junior and
Senior Infants can be collected at 12 o’clock to help prevent congestion at thegate. School will re-open on Monday January 9^th 2012.
