May is upon us already and hopefully summer weather will follow! May is a busy month with
lots of Rackard League hurling and camogie lined up for Mr Cadogan and Ms O’Connor’s teams.

3^rd class are well into their swimming lessons and 5^thwill commence on May 23^rd. School tours and local SESE( Social,
Environmental and  Scientific Education)trips will also start.

Safety and security measures

The Board of Management has had concerns in recent times about overall security levels in
and around the school and in the light of a number of break-ins to schools
decided to install security cameras. Signs also direct visitors to come to the
front office. This does not mean parents dropping or collecting infants but does mean parents or guardians coming
to collect pupils for appointments etc. The back gate will be locked promptlyat the end of the school day. Further measures are also being considered for September.

School Reports

All primary schools are now required to send out end of year reports to parents before the
end of the summer term under the National
Literacy and Numeracy Strategy (Circular 56/11) and to include the results
of Standardised tests in literacy and numeracy  for 2^nd/ 4^th and 6^th
classes. We test from 1^st to 6^th and will include the
test results as we did last year. Report cards will be a different format this
year and copies of 6^th class reports will be sent on to secondary
schools. We aim to have reports out during the week starting  June 18^th . Please send in a
stamped addressed envelope to class teachers ahead of this date. We will not be
able to include actual attendance before June 30^th .

Green Flag

We have been invited to the Green School Award Ceremony in Croke Park on May 31^st
. Ms Rossiter, Mrs. Kavanagh and our two 6^th class Green school
representatives Ben Somers and Orla Nolan will travel to Croke Park to collect
our third Green Flag. We plan to raise it on the afternoon of June 21^st
but this is subject to the availability of activities  being organised to celebrate the event.

First Communion

2^ndclass are busy preparing with Mr Cadogan , Mrs Laffan  and Fr O’ Leary for First Communion on
Saturday May 12^th in St James Church, Horeswood. We are also very grateful to the pupils from 3^rd to 6^th who are giving up
their time to sing in the choir on the day.

AIMS Choral Festival

Ms Brady is currently preparing a combined 5^th and 6^th class choir
for this year’s AIMS Choral Festival on Friday May 18^th . We have
opted for a volunteer choir this year and thus far they are producing a lovely
sound. The choir is scheduled to sing at
9.40am in St Michael’s Theatre. They will also get an opportunity to
hear other choirs on the day. Audience entry to the Junior Day competitions is
free so if you are in town come along to hear them sing.

School Walk

A date for your diary! We have scheduled Wednesday June 20^th for our annual
school walk at 7pm. We hope everyone will support this very popular and sociable
school event! More information in the June newsletter.

Infant Night

Our new intake Infant Night on Tuesday 5^thJune from 7-8pm. We look forward to meeting existing and new parents and their
children on the night.

Community Games swimming

Two of our 3^rd class pupils did really well in the Community Games County swimming finals in
the Kennedy Memorial Pool in New Ross recently. Ciara Brennan took a bronze
medal in the U-12 category while Shane Byrne narrowly missed out on the U-10 semi-final .

Art achievement

Congratulations to Megan Rossiter in 6^th class who received a Highly Commended
certificate for her Texaco art entry. Over 26,000 entries were received in this
year’s competition so it is a great  achievement  for Megan.

A Cut for a Cause

Two 6^th class pupils Gráinne Ryan and Mairéad Kehoe had their hair cut for the Rapunzel
Foundation this week. They registered under the Camogie club over a year ago
with Anna Furlong’s Hair Salon . It has taken that period of time to grow their
hair to 30cm. They may be appearing on TV and will feature on Anna Furlong’s
Facebook page.

Technology Project

Ms Walsh’s 4^thclass has been a hive of activity for the past number of weeks as the pupils
worked on their project to submit to Engineering Ireland. The theme of Technology for Life used their chicken
incubation project as a springboard to discovering lots of technology used to
help us in our lives including defibrillators and hoists. They made a model
ambulance, visited the New Ross Day Care Centre where Anna McKinstry’s mum is
manager and enjoyed a visit from Ms Walsh’s brother who is a paramedic. Lots of
activity and lots of learning.

Tesco Tokens

If you shop in Tesco please collect the schools tokens and drop them in to us. We have
benefitted a lot from the free  P.E. equipment and resources over the past number of years. Mr Cadogan is also
collecting the Quality Irish labels from fruit and vegetable bags.These are mostly plastic and need to be cut off the bags.
